Reports To:  Golf Course Superintendent

The Assistant Superintendent position at Monarch Beach Golf Links provides the right candidate with the opportunity to further develop the skills necessary to become a successful superintendent while working and living in an area with a fantastic quality of life.  This position offers the opportunity to gain valuable experience working with effluent water and managing salts as well as grooming a high end resort golf property. The Assistant Superintendent will also take on a leadership role throughout various course improvement projects scheduled for the upcoming seasons.

Monarch Beach Golf Links, an oceanfront Robert Trent Jones Jr. championship golf course, is located in beautiful Orange County, CA.  With sweeping views of the Pacific, Monarch Beach offers one of the most spectacular settings in golf on the West Coast.  The course features Bermudagrass tees, fairways, and rough with Poa annua putting greens.  Monarch Beach is irrigated with recycled water and Toro's Lynx central control.

Position Summary
  • Schedules, trains, supervises and motivates 25 man crew with the assistance of the Superintendent
  • Maintains accurate work records for all personnel in the department with the assistance of the Superintendent
  • Supervises and/or executes all planting, fertilizing, care and removal of turf, plants, shrubs, trees and other facilities on the golf course
  • Inspects course regularly to evaluate and recommend improvements
  • Oversees the application of fertilizers and nutrients for the property
  • Oversees moisture management with Superintendent and Irrigation Technicians of all playing surfaces with focus on putting greens
  • Oversees repairs of broken water lines or valves and may perform necessary repairs in an emergency
  • Records all maintenance on course for review with the Superintendent
  • Establishes short and long-range plans for the golf course with the Superintendent
  • Works closely with the Superintendent to implement the property’s safety program
  • Ensures that chemicals, petroleum and other controlled products are used, stored and disposed of in accordance with local, state and federal regulations; maintains required records and strives to minimize 
    the use of chemicals and petroleum products
  • Communicates as necessary with the golf shop relating to on-course activities
  • Works with Superintendent to ensure proper landscaping throughout the property including the clubhouse and surrounding areas
  • Helps to coordinate applicable work with outside contractors
  • Conducts other appropriate tasks assigned by the General Manager or Superintendent
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary to direct and motivate team members
  • Strong problem solving skills with ability to create timely solutions in a dynamic work environment
  • Willingness to grow within the organization and position yourself as a resource to the entire operation
  • Ability to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position
  • Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling
  • Possess California pesticide applicators license or have ability to do so within 60 days of hire
  • Valid driver’s license
