One of the teams from Albuquerque, New Mexico’s
Sandia Golf Club won the inaugural
OB Sports National Team Championship with a combined score of 377.5 (188 at
The Duke on Saturday, September 8 and 189.5 at
Longbow Golf Club on Sunday, September 9, 2007). The team score was determined by posting the lowest two-day eight-person team score made up of the three best individual team scores on each day, and team Sandia edged out the second-place team from Longbow Golf Club by two strokes to become the overall 2007 OB Sports Team Champions.
“Many of my teammates didn’t even know each other prior to the event, but they came together and played some solid golf,” said Chris Paul, Captain of team Sandia. “Some of the guys hadn’t played in a high-profile competitive golf event, but they really overcame the pressure and played well. We’re looking forward to defending the cup next year.”
Each participating golf club, 11 total from throughout the U.S., fielded an eight-person team made up of seven qualifiers from the club and the club’s golf professional. Prizes were awarded for special contests throughout the event as well as to the top three daily two-person teams for each flight.
“Congratulations Sandia! They were 9.5 shots down after the first round and managed to pull it off in the end, well done team Sandia,” said Kris Strauss, Director of Sales and Marketing,
OB Sports Golf Management. “I’d like to thank Longbow Golf Club and The Duke for putting on a great tournament. And I’d also like to thank Eagle Mountain Golf Club for graciously hosting the practice round on Friday. Last but not least, many thanks to our event partners Srixon, Budweiser, Parimeter Events and GolfWeek.”
