HIGH MEADOW RANCH CAPTURES 2009 OB SPORTS NATIONAL TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP, PRESENTED BY GPS INDUSTRIES
Team from Magnolia, Texas captures national event played at Aliante Golf Club and The Legacy Golf Club.

Each participating OB Sports-managed golf club,13 total from throughout the U.S., fielded an eight-person team grouped together in four, two-person teams. The teams are made up of seven qualifiers from the club and the club’s golf professional. Daily prizes were awarded to the top three two-person teams from each flight (Scratch Flight, 1st Flight, and 2nd Flight).  In addition, each team posted its best three, two-person-team net scores, across both days of competition and the team with the lowest net score was crowned the overall champion.   High Meadow Ranch posted a two-day total of 426 to win by six strokes over Sandia Golf Club’s 432 and defending champion Tijeras Creek Golf Club’s 432.

"Our team truly played consistently and avoided the blow-up holes that might have came back to bite some of the other teams,” stated High Meadow team captain, Cody Spivey. “We finished strong by stringing together a host of natural birdies and net birdies. That was huge. Plus another key to our win was the play of Lynn “Woody” Widrick and Joe Armstong who played amazingly. They were under par both days and shot 66 during the final round to help lead us to victory,” added Spivey.

Additionally, the High Meadow Ranch team had an emotional leader in the form of Carl Tolbert who survived a near fatal car accident in March of 2009. “The doctor first told him that they doubted he was going to walk again, but his surgery went well and he started to recover. Despite a progression in his recovery, the doctor told him he probably wouldn’t be able to play golf again,” stated Spivey. Undeterred, Carl recovered nicely and was determined to start playing golf again with a goal to be back playing in time for the OB Sports National Team Championship. He did in fact, recover enough to start playing the game again and team captain Spivey awarded Carl with the captains pick. “It was great that Carl could be part of our team and during this event. This victory is a great story for not only High Meadow but for Carl as well who was truly blessed to even be with us.” “One look on Carl’s face during the trophy presentation as it was clear that he was lucky to not only be playing the game again but also be at here in the first place,” added Spivey.

“Congratulations to High Meadow Ranch for grinding out two great days of golf and capturing ‘The Cup’”, the said Dave Goff, Vice President of Operations for OB Sports. “Also hats of to the host facilities, Aliante and The Legacy for putting on a great event in Las Vegas. We would be remiss if we do not acknowledge all of the support received from our presenting sponsor GPS Industries, and our supporting sponsors Cleveland Golf/Srixon and Southern Wine.”

Participating golf clubs include Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.; Langdon Farms Golf Club in Aurora, Ore.; Eagle Mountain Golf Club in Fountain Hills, Ariz.; Centennial Golf Club in Medford, Ore.; Three Crowns Golf Club in Casper, Wyo.; Sandia Resort & Casino in Albuquerque, N.M.; Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.; Angel Park Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev.; Aliante Golf Club in North Las Vegas, Nev.; The Legacy Golf Club in Henderson, Nev.; and High Meadow Ranch in Magnolia, Tex.
