Private club features course designed by award-winning architect Jim Engh

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — OB Sports Golf Management is proud to announce it has assumed club management duties for True North Golf Club, an exclusive private club located in Harbor Springs, MI. Effective April 2016, OB Sports began overseeing all golf and club operations for the facility.

“We’re looking forward to working with such a special golf club,” said Sean Cracraft, Senior Vice President of Operations at OB Sports.  “True North is looking to add to an already active membership by showcasing a first class golf course and facilities. We couldn’t be more excited about the future.”

“Our ownership group acquired True North at a time when the course and the Club were emerging from challenging economic times,” said Fritz Duda, Managing Partner of True North Golf Club. “Our commitment to making this a premier club involved finishing various elements over the past few years, including what is now a signature 18th hole, in order to position the Club for future growth.

“With this transition now virtually completed, we selected OB to manage and operate the club as it continues its growth.  Their reputation and performance with other high quality clubs is consistent with the high standards we have set at True North.”

Opened in 2004 and designed by award-winning architect Jim Engh, True North offers four sets of tee boxes that measure anywhere from 7,040 yards from the championship tees, to 4,847 yards from the gold tees. Built to follow the natural terrain of the region, plush fairways and bent grass greens give golf purists a good, but fair test.

“During a brief period that the Club allowed public play, Golf Digest rated it number 33 of the Top 100 in 2011,” said Cracraft. “The club is now private and is ranked as one of the top courses in Michigan. With the terrific improvements the ownership group has accomplished these past few years, it will undoubtedly enjoy a future top rating nationally as a private course.”

Setting True North apart from other private clubs in the region is hospitality, which is afforded with several golf cottages modeled after Augusta National and other distinguished venues. These allow stay and play for members and guests, adjacent to a world class short game practice area. The 6,000 square foot clubhouse at True North is home to the golf shop, Compass dining room, a boardroom, and men’s and women’s locker rooms. Located and built on the highest point on the property, it is designed to be warm, inviting and comfortable – the perfect place to both begin and end a perfect day.

“There is so much to do and see in Northern Michigan, and True North is in the center of it all,” said Cracraft. “I’ve heard Harbor Springs referred to as the ‘Monterey-Carmel of the Midwest,’ and I would have to agree. The natural beauty in every direction just breathtaking.”

True North Golf Club offers a variety of memberships, including Generational and Corporate. Membership is by invitation, and those interested are encouraged to visit http://truenorthgolf.com/membership-information or contact True North General Manager Matt Payne, at (231) 526-3300 or by email at MPayne@TrueNorthGolf.com.

May 18th 2016 - DANA POINT, Calif. – Monarch Beach Resort has won the prestigious Gold Medal Resort Award from GOLF Magazine, joining elite company from throughout North America as one of only four Southern California destinations on the Gold Medal list of honorees for 2016-2017.

Part of the magazine’s “Premier Resorts” package, both in the June 2016 print edition and on GOLF.com, the biannual rankings are based on four criteria: golf, lodging, food and drink and service. Forty percent of the resort recognition is linked to golf, where voters considered factors such as challenge, playability, scenery, history, facilities and service. The rest of the score was equally weighed among lodging, food and drink and overall service at the resorts.

“We are honored and proud to be ranked by GOLF Magazine as a premier golf resort,” said Chris White, Senior Director of Sales and Marketing of Monarch Beach Resort. “The Gold Medal award, along with recently completed renovations to the guest rooms and public spaces, take Monarch Beach Resort to another level.”

One of only six California resorts on the Gold Medal Resorts honor roll, Monarch Beach Resort is home to a Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designed golf course that wraps along the dramatic bluffs above the Pacific. The 6,600-yard, par-70 Monarch Beach Golf Links, recent host of the PGA Southern California Open Championship, is a modern design inspired by the legendary seaside Scottish links. Amid sweeping views to the sea, the well-crafted routing of tight fairways and rolling greens provides challenges as well as enjoyment to golfers of all levels.

“This is a special honor for our golf property,” said Eric Lohman, PGA General Manager of Monarch Beach Golf Links, “and It is a testament to the dedication of our entire golf operations team.”

Off the golf course, the newly enhanced Monarch Beach Resort, an elegant coastline escape, has been transformed following a recent 400-room refresh, along with a redesigned lobby, five new dining concepts, an expansive pool area and pool bar, renovated public spaces and a new, exclusive spa partnership with Miraval, a global leader of spa and wellness.

Expressions of the resort’s new personality – equal parts sophisticated, approachable and intimate – celebrate Dana Point’s playful coastal lifestyle and immerse guests in the laid-back luxury of beachfront living. Recently restyled guest rooms and suites reflect a coastal palette of cool blues, greens and crisp whites. Each features private balconies from which to take in the ocean breeze, plush bedding for restful nights, and spacious living areas to find reprieve at the day’s end.

“The extensive renovations refine the property’s casual coastal character and enhance the guest experience at every touch point,” White said.  “The transformation of the resort has surpassed our expectations.”

Secluded down the hillside from the golf course is the resort’s private Monarch Beach, a pristine sandy playground along the cool blue ocean that is the ideal setting for all the classic California beach games and water sports. Views of Orange County's finest Salt Creek Surf Break, Catalina Island and the Pacific Ocean will soothe any soul.

Monarch Beach Resort also is honored as a Forbes Five-Star, and AAA Five-Diamond property.

In recognizing the 100 greatest golf destinations in North America, GOLF magazine lists only properties that excel in course design and playability, while providing luxurious accommodations. Scores produce winners in three separate levels – Platinum, Gold and Silver. GOLF has been ranking resorts around the world for 28 years.
