OB SPORTS DELIVERS ON MAINTENANCE PROMISE AT U.S. WOMEN'S OPEN

July 29th, 2016

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The 2016 U.S. Women’s Open at CordeValle produced world class golf with a memorable playoff finish, and Scottsdale-based OB Sports Golf Management had an integral role in the planning and execution of the major championship. OB Sports’ attention to detail on the maintenance side resulted in a golf course lauded industry wide for its preparation.

“I have not experienced a golf course prepared much better on a daily basis than CordeValle was for the Women’s Open,” said Darin S. Bevard, Director of Championship Agronomy for the United States Golf Association.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen such consistent numbers,” added Pat Gross, USGA Western Region Director, Green Section. “Outstanding work!”

The contingent of OB Sports employees included management and specialists from Angel Park, and Durango Hills Golf Club in Las Vegas, Moffett Field in San Jose, Randolph Golf Complex, Silverbell Golf Club, and The Golf Club at Vistoso in Tucson, Cave Creek Golf Club, and Aguila Golf Club in Phoenix, and the Sedona Golf Resort in Sedona. There were also four senior executives from the OB Sports Corporate office in Scottsdale, along with two principals of the company. The “B” in OB Sports, Bob Marshall, has been the Superintendent at CordeValle under OB Sports since January as well.

“When OB Sports was contracted by CordeValle, we wanted to exceed everyone’s expectations from a maintenance standpoint,” said Luke Beardmore, Senior Vice President of Agronomy at OB Sports. “We went all-in, and I’m so pleased with what we were able to accomplish. The playing conditions were complimented by players, officials, and countless viewers. Our large contingent of OB Sports employees worked well with the CordeValle staff and all of the other volunteers. Everyone’s hard work really paid off.”

“We really wanted to showcase our abilities at this world class event,” said C.A. Roberts, President and Principal of OB Sports. “We are very proud of everyone’s efforts to host this National Championship. There were a lot of long hours worked to ensure the course and event were ready, but it turned out great, and we are thrilled with the positive responses.”

OB Sports also brought in industry partner John Deere Golf to assist with the logistics for the championship. John Deere provided a brand new fleet of equipment two months prior to the event, countless pieces of “loaner” equipment for the event, a technician for the entire week of the championship, and uniforms for the entire maintenance staff.

“It was an absolute pleasure to be a part of the golf course maintenance team at CordeValle,” said Cory Niehaus, Senior Corporate Business Manager for John Deere Golf. “They did such an amazing job preparing the golf course for the best female golfers in the world. It was a great experience just to watch it all unfold.”
