  • Drink Plenty of Water in the Days Leading Up to Your Round There’s no need to wait until you get to the golf course to start the hydration process.
  • Give yourself three to four days before your tee time to drink as much water as possible, and you will find yourself relying less on cooling stations between holes. You can also try sports drinks like Gatorade and Powerade for an extra pick-me-up. The electrolytes will help avoid cramping after sweating out your body’s salts.
  • Use Your Golf Bag’s Pockets Efficiently Make sure you have more than golf balls and tees in your golf bag. Before you leave the house, fill the larger side pockets with a large towel to wipe away sweat, or even water bottles to keep you hydrated between cooling stations.
  • And ALWAYS wear sunblock with a high SPF, as not even the widest brimmed hats will protect exposed skin from harmful UV rays.
  • Be Smart on the Day of Your Round Not trying to sound like a broken record, but consistently drink water throughout your round. We’ve found that taking a large swig from a water bottle after every stroke on the golf course is a good routine to keep.
  • Dressing the part will also help maintain a great comfort level on the course. Any combination of breathable hats, collared shirts, and shorts if allowed, will help in the long run. And don’t forget lighter colors will help reflect as much of the sun as possible.
  • Shade is Your Friend We’re not talking about the shade thrown around by our favorite millennial friends. We’re talking about the shade that keeps you directly out of the sunlight. Look for trees on the sides of fairways to camp out underneath between shots. And if the course you’re playing doesn’t have mature enough trees, stay seated in your golf car for as long as possible.
  • And lastly, but probably most importantly: If you don’t feel well on the golf course, stop playing and immediately head back to the clubhouse for some water and sports drinks. Feeling light headed, dizzy, nauseous, or when you stop sweating are some immediate signs you need to cut your round short.
